Why health and fitness may be the answer you’re looking for in order to level up your career or your relationships.
Over the last month I’ve been reading a book called the Infinite Game written by Simon Sinek
For those who don’t know who Simon Sinek is…
He’s the guy who did the whole Millennials speech that blew up the internet.
If you still don’t know, google it and watch it as it’s an amazing take on the workplace environment and working with today’s employees.
In the book it talks about the short game and long game of business.
Business is described as a long term game where it is constantly being played and there is no foreseeable end to it.
This is true if you look around all the successful and massive corporations.
McDonalds was around before I was born and will probably be around well after I die.
He then asks the questions, “why do we play the game of business like it’s a short term game?”
Trying to WIN businesses or BEING better than our opposition are common business strategies and are even slogans for some companies today.
‘No 1 in home appliances’ or ‘the world's best pizza place’.
If we were playing the long game, it would be about helping advance other businesses not WIN them
And it would be about increasing the standard of the playing field not BEING better than our opposition.
These things would just naturally occur and at points you would be the leader and at points you’d be stuck in the middle of the pack.
The reason I bring this up is…
...I see this happen all too often with people’s health and wellness.
We know our health is important to us in order to survive as long as we can on this earth
Yet we play short term games of losing a certain amount of weight in a specific time frame
Or
Trying a certain diet to get results faster.
If we truly understand the nature of it, your health isn’t about the short term achievements that get you to where you want to be in the moment.
It’s the long term grind where sometime’s you’re at your peak and sometimes you’re not.
I’ve always believed that one’s life, rises and falls on their health and wellness.
If they are healthy and well, they can give the best of themselves in every other situation.
Understand the game you are playing in one part of your life, helps increase or decrease the productivity you may have
And ultimately decide the trajectory your life is heading on.
Today I view myself as being in the middle of the pack but I’m striving to be at the front
It may take a month, it may take 12
But I know where I want to be and what I can do to get me there. The goal posts may move but my intent will always be the same.
This is the long game and some days maybe good, others maybe bad
But I know that’s the game I’m playing and that is important like every other part of my life.
I use health and fitness to set these standards for myself.
What do you use?
