How good are these longer days?

How good has this sun been?

The last few days here in Christchurch have been absolute belters.

More people are out and about

More smiles and laughs down at the local coffee shop

And you can see the purpose in people’s steps when you see them walking down the street.

After the year we’ve had it’s so good to see people enjoying life once again as it should be

and a feeling that things are turning around for the better.

It’s amazing what a good few days will do to the spirit.

I caught up with a friend from school the other day who I haven’t seen in over 10 years

I’ll be honest, we didn’t hang out that much but because it was such a small school you still knew everyone.

He reached out to me and at first I wasn’t sure of the catch up, if I had time or if I could be bothered to be honest.

But I committed to it and was so glad I did!

It was so good to catch up and talk about old times, share memories, who we still talk to and how we’ve grown over time.

It was great to hear how well he’s doing and talk about what I’m up to.

It was a catch up where you just feel good and energised after it and I look forward to catching up with him again soon.

Last week, my wife, son and I headed down south for my Dad’s retirement celebration and final service.

26 years he’s been in Mataura down in Southland serving the community and he drew the curtain on what has been an incredible career.

My love for relationships and family stems from my parents and you could see how much they enjoyed having us all together for such an amazing celebration.

It’s always great to take their grandson down to see them and he loves being around them which always warms the heart

Myself and the team had a photo shoot on Wednesday and to have the team around each other once again was awesome.

We started off with just the usual crew of me and the girls

But they hadn’t seen Tasman or Amy for a while and it was great seeing them catch up and share laughs

Then the two boys made their appearance later on and the banter started to flow and I came to realise again why I was so pumped to work with these guys.

You really feel the energy of like minded people when you’re around them and this lifts your energy and level of production

And I know my game is always increased when I’m around this lot which makes me feel energised and ready for what’s ahead.

The reason I mention all this stuff is because of how important it is to recognise the beauty in every situation.

All things that strengthen the spirit

We’ve all had a pretty tough year but there is always hope that things are brighter and better ahead and if you can see the beauty in the moment

You can appreciate the decisions that brought you there.

I’m truly blessed to have such an amazing environment around me to thrive in,

The support of friends, family and loved ones

And opportunities to level up every single day.

I challenge you today to kick your feet up and look over your life,

What fills your spirit and what drives you to be the best you every day?

Find those things and hold onto them, they are what will get you through your storms

And be there when the sun is on your face again.
